IN OTHER WORDS - EVERYTHING COUNTS
Hot Enough For 'Ya? Have you found yourself saying that these past few weeks? I remember what humidity is like now. After 8 years in the Colorado convection oven I'm home in the Minnesota steam broiler. Yes, it's hot, we know. Something I have always heard this time of year is "You'll be complaining about the cold soon enough." And it's our Right to complain. But is it our responsibility, and within our power to do something about it?
We all kind of realize that something needs to change, and soon. Do we wait for it to be legislated, or does it start at home? I've got no place to talk here. I like keeping the a/c running cold. Sometimes I realize all the lights in the house are on. I enjoy long scenic drives in my SUV around this beautiful land. While exploring Colorado I saw the large number of fracking operations. I reminded myself of my dependance on natural gas for cooking and heating. Hard to complain about the collection and use of something you use every day.
But where do we go from here? The world is fast changing. I'm thinking it's up to Us to change it for the Better. "Everything Counts In Large Amounts." There are record-breaking temps around the world. Wildfires, pavement melting, people dying. Remember to check on your neighbors, especially those who may need it the most. Not just in the summer - why not every season? Sometimes a friendly "Hi - Making Sure You're Doin' Alright" can save, and change a person's life. It's a nice feeling knowing someone cares enough to ask, don't brush it off.
Despite the heat it's great to see so many getting outdoors and enjoying the season. Our summer festivals are a blast. The lakes and rivers and forests are alive and beautiful. Let's maybe try to do what we can to keep them that way.
I started doing something while travelling these past 2 years. I began to notice how much garbage there is laying around most of the country. Not so much here in MN, nor in CO. But other parts of the USA are kind of a dump. So every time I took my dogs for a walk anywhere I tried to remember to bring a trash bag. If I forgot to, I found one in the bushes. My hands are easily washed afterwards. It's hard to un-see the garbage once you start noticing.
But that's me. My point is that there are little things we can do in our daily routines that really truly make a difference. It was always a great feeling to look behind me to see a beautiful spot made more beautiful by my hands. Maybe we can each find a way to make this Ugly Duckling of a World shine brighter. Through actions or friendly words or Any Thing.
